Save Otis Bolamu from Imminent Deportation to the DRC
Why this petition matters

--We started this petition for Otis in December 2018--
Otis Bolamu was taken into detention from his bed in Swansea on Thursday December 19th at 4am. Currently he is in Brook House Immigration Removal Centre at Gatwick. He will deported on Christmas Day. Otis comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Travellers are currently being advised to avoid travelling to the DRC because of the risks arising from a very turbulent and unsafe political situation.
Otis used to work for the DRC government He came to the UK in the spring of this year because he was informed by friends that he was suspected of spying for the opposition and was in severe danger. He was refused leave to remain in August and is appealing that decision.
Otis is a much-loved member of his community in Swansea. He volunteered at the Hay Festival in May this year and is a regular volunteer with Oxfam. A protest against his detention held in Swansea on December 21st attracted considerable support. All he wants is to be able to worship at his church on Christmas Day. Instead, he is being sent into harm's way, with unseemly haste, on the most sacred of all days for Christians, whilst the rest of us will be celebrating. This is a cruel example of the hostile environment at work. Such an action is not at all compatible with the Christmas message of love and compassion.
Please sign this petition, requesting the Home Secretary to review his case.
