EXORBITANT ANNUAL INCREASE IN IMMIGRATION APPLICATION FESS BY THE HOME OFFICE

It has become the tradition of the Home Office to increase the immigration application fees with no justification or consultation by the house of parliament. This yearly increment has no doubt place extra burden on the well-meaning and hardworking families, some of who has to take up loans from bank or families to pay for the unjustified application fees. These families work hard to pay their taxes, the NI, and add to the growth of the country. I have witnessed some of these families torn apart by the extra burden of these ridiculous non-refundable application fees by the Home Office. Most affected countries, especially the commonwealth African countries has chosen not to talk for so long and believe it is time to have our voices heard despite our contribution made to the economy of the country. We believe now is the time to speak out against the unfair immigration rules and annual increase in immigration application fees.
A Family Visa extension of stay in the UK has gone up from £750 to £993 while a premium service is £1,583. The indefinite leave to remain (ILR) has gone up to £2,297 from £1,875 in 2016. Settlement visa has equally gone up to £1,464 from £1,195. Please refer to https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/607212/Fees_table_April_2017.pdf for the full applications fees. The UK immigration application fees remain the highest in the world. When looking at these changes it is very easy to see them as completely oppressive and unfair to immigrants outside the EEA while the EEA countries are particularly free. For an average family which are expected to have a minimum income threshold of £18,600 plus additional £3,600 for first child (£22,200 in total) to be asked to pay a visa application of £4,594 increasing with £2,297 for every additional child. This represents roughly about 25% of the total annual income for the family. This is unfair and oppressive. The high immigration application fees is no doubt a tradition way of extorting money from hard working non-EEA immigrants whom are believed not to speak out for a long time.
Despite the increment, the Home Office service in processing these applications continues to deteriorate yearly. Some family paying for premium services that has to be decided same day did not get their reply for months. Other applications that supposed to take six weeks to be processed don’t get decided for months or years. These delays have caused some families to be without jobs and hardship for months while their application remains with the Home Office.
From an immigration perspective, it is clear that the UK needs immigration and the immigrant has continued to be victimised and extorted on regular basis by this ridiculous annual increase in application fees.
I urged on your support in fulfilling this dream for struggling and hardworking families.
