Hollywood Expansion Transition Plan

Dear Hollywood Parents:
We need your support to impress upon Superintendent Linda Curtis and the TDSB Planning Department the importance of moving quickly with the expansion project at Hollywood P.S. Your School Council has established a small working group to meet regularly with the key decision makers including Trustee Brown.  We need to make sure this project gets moving quickly and stays on track.
The expansion project is scheduled to take up to 3 years.  We will try to move this up if we can.  In the meantime we have strongly suggested to the Superintendent, Trustee and the Planning Department that our school is beyond overcapacity with the addition of 3 more portables scheduled for September – That makes a total of 9.  We are completely out of space, which poses a health and safety risk to the students and has created a terrible learning environment.  Younger students are now being forced into the portables because of the overcapacity. This situation is completely unacceptable.
While we wait for the expansion project to begin, we have strongly recommended that Hollywood be fitted with a porta-pac (portable building) to connect directly to the school building via one of the main entrances and that this be done for the coming school year. This will replace the nine portables and will allow students in those rooms to have direct access to the school and washrooms.  This will eliminate the need for students to have to go outside to get to the main building and will be a much safer option when the expansion construction begins.  This still is not the ideal situation but we believe it is much better than simply adding more and more portables.  We hope you agree.
Please take the time to respond to the petition below as our voices will make a difference in getting this accommodation for our school while we wait for the expansion construction to begin.
