Leigh anne Hulmes started this petition to Holdfast Bay Council

On behalf of the local community we wish Holdfast Bay Council to reject the current application for the proposed Mcdonalds development at 262-270 Brighton Road, Somerton Park.

First and foremost the location of this proposed fast food outlet is only a few hundred meters from Brighton High School and Paringa Park Primary School and is also within walking distance of Sacred Heart. The government continues to release statistics of the damaging impact on health and the obesity crisis affecting this generation. Whilst appreciating that there is an element of parental control and personal responsibility of children; the proximity of this particular location to schools is of significant concern.

The environmental impact is also a key consideration in saying no. The increased volume of traffic around the school and adjoining residential zones will pose a significant threat to safety and increased pollution from traffic. Brighton road and the area in general is already very congested and to add a 24 hour drive through into the mix where children are attempting to get to and from school or sporting activities (which there are also many ovals, parks and clubs ) safely is an accident waiting to happen. The increase in traffic in the local residential area all hours of the day and night will reduce quality of life for local residents and the rubbish generated will end up littering the surrounding area and ultimately end up polluting our beaches. There is also a significant tree on site which we should be encouraging the council to preserve.

If you share these concerns please sign the petition and use your voice to stop Mcdonalds.
