Hold Wilmington to Paris Climate Standards
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,500.
In the wake of President Trump’s decision to back out of the Paris Climate Agreement, 68 (and growing!) mayors across the United States announced that in order to protect their communities they would uphold the agreement’s goals on a local scale and accelerate their cities’ own efforts to combat climate change.
Wilmington should join this vanguard of cities pledging firm to the Paris agreement and to acting locally to safeguard the environment.
Because of Wilmington’s dependence on our environment -- from our tourism industry that thrives on our beautiful scenery, to acting as a buttress to environmental degradation occurring further inland -- we do not have the luxury of ignoring climate change and its adverse economic impact to our city.
Sign to ask Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo to join the Climate Mayors.
The "Climate Cities” represent over 44 million Americans in both red and blue states working together for a planet that affects all of us, and for an economy in which we can thrive. Mayor Saffo and the Wilmington City Council have an opportunity to join this lead. Join me in urging them to pass a resolution holding Wilmington to the Paris Accord Climate standards.

- Mayor of WIlmington, NC
The U.S. pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement is unfortunate, but we know that Washington does not speak for the citizens of this wonderful nation in this regard. The rest of the world knows it, too. Not only is the Paris Climate Agreement critical for fighting global climate change, but also it is what the American people want! More than 70 percent supported the Paris Climate Agreement and want the U.S. to be involved. We still can!
As a region so intertwined with the environment -- both as an economic necessity for our tourism, agriculture, and intermodal transportation industries, as well as the recreation and leisure that Wilmingtonians enjoy firsthand due in part of -- it is imperative that we do not follow Washington's lead and instead set a good example for current and future generations.
Even though the Paris Climate Agreement is largely symbolic at the local level, it only benefits our region to show our support to other kindred cities and hold ourselves to higher standards than that which the federal government believes is correct.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter, it is greatly appreciated.
