WE STAND WITH YEMA WE STAND WITH YEMA started this petition to We Stand With Yema

Update 11.9.20.

Friends,

As many as you know, a new incident has occurred. For those who watched the video and were outraged unfortunately, Yema was once again, a target.  The Tiburon PD has linked some teenagers to an online post threatening to "raid" Yema's store if Biden won the election. The post had multiple gun and devil emojis.

Of course we recognize with the nature and the age of the ones who posted the threat that this has to be handled carefully but that being said, the DA Lori Frugoli and the Tiburon PD should have used this teachable moment to  encourage parents & teachers to have those conversations with their children not only about racism, but about posting gun emojis online, rather than labeling it as an "immature prank."

We need to teach our children that racism will not be tolerated, and that joking about hurting someone, is no laughing matter. We do not know where someone’s anger stems from but now, more than ever, we need to be the love this world truly needs and we cannot be dismissive, even if the one who posted meant nothing by it.

If you could please continue to share this petition so we can send the signatures to the DA and the Tiburon Council, that would be wonderful.

There have been far too many hate crimes and school shootings for the community to ignore such a threatening post.

Again this isn't to punish or humiliate anyone, but rather to ask the DA to publicly acknowledge the value of having those tough conversations and that the community doesn't take such a threat, lightly.

Enough is enough.

After a racist incident caught on film, we are demanding that the Tiburon police be investigated. In addition, there must be a public video apology from the police officers involved and the mayor. There must be training and a law involving the police officers to protect all of those of color in Tiburon.
