Here is a link to the story in question. I urge that you read it to see what the extent of the situation has become: http://thehofstrachronicle.com/student-suffers-12-seizures-marijuana-confiscated/?platform=hootsuite
A student at Hofstra University has been hospitalized due to a grand mal seizure after Hofstra's Public Safety confiscated their medicinal marijuana. The actions of Associate Director of Public Safety Robert McDonald and Resident Director of Constitution and Vander Poel Hall Samuel Baah have demonstrated Hofstra's inability to understand and service their students' medical needs over outdated security policies. As a donor and alumni of the university, I am apalled at the actions Hofstra has taken in this manner, especially as it has resulted in putting this student's well-being at risk.
If the university won't act in a proper manner, they do not deserve the support of their alumni and donors. The catalyst for change is by demonstration and I urge any and all members of the Hofstra community, whether it be student or faculty or donor, to force the university's hand: either adhere to the medical circumstances of your students and pay for the damage done to this student's health, or risk losing your annual donations. If Hofstra cannot uphold student medical safety, the university does not deserve your money.
Hofstra entices itself on its P.R.I.D.E slogan. What has transpired in this situation is nothing to be proud of.
