Hello parents, guardians, and family members of Hobbs high school students. I want to bring up a situation that has been brought to my concern. My little brother is a member of the Hobbs football JV team. He works and trains so hard for this sport that he is passionate about along with his team mates that I know train as hard as well. In a conversation after not seeing him for a while (I’m away for college), I asked how football was going (knowing how exciting it is for him) his reply was “it’s going alright” with no enthusiasm which I know him to have always about the sport. I asked why. His answer was that the coaches are bringing in Varsity players to play JV games, so that is less game time for the JV players. This is really upsetting and I know it’s upsetting for other families of JV players. I find it very unfair for our athletes to spend hours at practice training hard just for varsity players to come in and play THEIR games as if they didn’t have their own games to play , just for them to get more bench time than game time. Also, what is this showing our athletes? That they aren’t good enough ? That they need to have varsity players play their games in order to win?? Are they teaching our athletes that the only point is to win? There are many talented athletes that don’t get to put their talent into play. I feel that the coaches are being unappreciative of these athletes hard work and instead of lifting them up they are really just hurting their self esteem as athletes. I feel that this should be brought to the attention of the athletic department and make a change that only JV players play their games making it worth their hard work and dedication.
