The Montpelier Retreat footpath is a busy thoroughfare between Salamanca Place and Battery Point. However, the footpath is currently too narrow to accomodate the thousands of pedestrians who use it each week.

The Hobart City Council can commit to expanding the Montpelier Retreat footpath, creating more space for pedestrians and providing outdoor seating opportunities for the businesses who occupy the street.

A Hobart City Council plan is underway to upgrade the Salamanca precinct. Unfortunately these plans do not currently include Montpelier Retreat, which is one of the most unkempt and unsafe pedestrian paths in the area.

We started this petition, because…

Our business is located at number 22 Montpelier Retreat. Access to our venue is a cause of constant grievance. We would love the opportunity to develop an outdoor seating area. However, the footpath at present is barely wide enough to accommodate pedestrians, especially the elderly, those requiring wheelchair access and families walking with children.

We believe the current infrastructure is inadequate and that upgrading the footpath will improve access and safety for all.
