Hobart Mountain Bike Riders! You have one last chance to show your support for Hobart City Council’s "Plan for Improved Mountain Bike Riding in the Foothills of kunanyi/Mount Wellington".

kunanyi/Mount Wellington has almost 80 km of walking tracks, yet currently has only 4km of purpose-built, mountain bike tracks. The Hobart City Council has developed a plan to create an expanded network for local and visiting mountain bike riders that includes beginner, intermediate and advanced tracks and some shared use tracks.

This plan will:

- remove some dangerous road links on the foothills of the mountain, creating safer options for riders and road-users.

- create family-friendly trails that riders of all levels can enjoy.

- create economic development opportunities for the Hobart area by capitalising on Tasmania's growing national and international appeal as a mountain biking destination.

However, none of this is a 'done-deal' yet. There is currently insufficient funding available to build all of the proposed new mtb tracks. The plan, if approved, will be used to seek external funding.

The final draft plan will be voted on by Council on Monday 26 October 2020.
