Stop unjust discrimination in the Coronavirus Self Employment Income Support Scheme
Why this petition matters

Take out the £50,000 cap from the conditions – there has been no justification for this figure – it bears no relationship whatsoever to the maximum claim and is penalising unfairly many hard working, risk taking business owners
£50,000 a year in London and the home counties will barely provide a home and basic essentials for a family when you factor in the cost of housing
There is no similar restriction for employed people who are furloughed – the maximum their employers can claim is 80% of their salary or £2,500 per month whichever is the lower – but their employer can pay their full salary if they so choose and can afford to
The maximum that can be claimed for the self employed is £2,500 per month – if that is to equate in any way – it is 80% of £37,500 a year
Huge numbers of businesses are run by sole traders and partnerships who have taken significant risks, often investing heavily in equipment, machinery, vans and other vehicles; they may have put their homes on the line as security; they employ tens of thousands of people and contribute hugely to the economy both in their own taxes and national Insurance as well as that of their employees – but very many of them will get absolutely nothing from the government under these current rules
