During the covid19 lockdown restrictions all social visits to prisoners have been suspended. We have not been able to see our family members/loved ones and we do not know if they are sick in prison or well. Some of our family/loved ones have died from covid19 and we on the outside of prison are unable to provide the support to our family members/loved ones who are in prison coping with these and other changes caused by covid19. Parents in prisons have not been able to receive visits from their children who in most cases are to young to understand why they have not been able to see or communicate with their mothers and fathers during this time. Those who received social visits before the lockdown restrictions should be allowed to make supervised video contact with those on their visit list possibly during the usual visiting times. This should be introduced across all prisons and amongst all prisoners who had social visits in place before the lockdown. We want to see our family/loved ones in prison during this unfortunate time. It would bring great devastation to families/individuals to loose someone close to us who is in prison and to not have communicated with them in over 3 months. Mental health is important to us all, lets talk about it. Our Mental health matters and so does our prisoners. Lets do what is right! Lets come together during this time and not be forced to be even further apart, this time more than any other is the most important time to be there for one another. Like you and I, Prisoners are human too, prisoners are our mothers, brothers, sisters, fathers, grandma’s and grandpa’s too we want to see them so we know they are strong enough to see this covid through.
