What sort of people get a Queen’s honour?
The honours system recognises people who’ve made great achievements in public life and people who’ve committed themselves to serve Britain. They will usually have made life better for other people or are outstanding at what they do like (making a difference to their community or field of work – enhancing Britain’s reputation – long-term voluntary service.) Bill Champion most certainly falls into those categories he has been selling poppies for the British Legion outside Tooting Broadway underground station for 22 years. This is a man who reached more than 100,000 shares from as far away as New Zealand and Australia and rightly so. Bill served in the Second World War in the 14th army and moved to London afterwards, marrying a 'London girl' and settling in Tooting. His name says it all a Champion in name and deed who puts the Great in Britain a true peoples champion so do the right thing and give the man his honour.
