Jess Thomas started this petition to Historic England and

A new zoo/safari has been proposed to be built upon the common land at Forge Mill, Redditch. This proposal will turn a haven for our native wildlife where you are able to see threatened UK wildlife such as frogs and herons, into a African themed zoo including a restaurant, gift shop and car park large enough to fit their expected footfall of 100,000 a year, which amounts to around 80 cars a day based on 4 people sharing a car.

Forge Mill is a FREE and beautiful place to visit no matter your age. It is popular with dog walkers, parents with small children, teenages, the elderly, local groups/schools, history and archaeology enthusiasts and summer time paddlers (swimming if you’re brave). As it offers all these groups something unique it is already a treasured part of Redditch and it’s value would be greatly diminished by this proposed development.

This common space will be turned into a commodity for one person to profit off whilst the rest of the public loses yet another space we can no longer enjoy without parting with our hard earning cash.

This petition does not seek to obstruct the plan to establish Heart of England Wildlife Park in Redditch but simply asking Historic England to recognize the value that it provides to the public in its existing state and ask that a more suitable site is found on private land.
