2020 has been an awful year. We have gone through many hardships. COVID 19, protests, businesses closing, the election, and much more. And as if 2020 hasn’t been bad enough, the cherry on top is of course depriving the children of Hingham Public Schools of snow days, and replacing them with remote “snow days.” The problem with this decree is that all of these people who decided this, did have snow days as children. Nell Larson, The Director of Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter in Park City, Utah, says, “Research shows that time outside, particularly unstructured play, increases test scores, creativity, and problem solving skills in addition to physical and mental health.”  Snow days are a gift of childhood. Whoever signs this petition is saying that they support bringing snow days back, whether it’s for you, your children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews, your students, or anyone else. By signing this, you agree that Hingham Public Schools students deserve the magic of snow days once more.
