Improve the baffling "crossed fingers" motorway sign on M40 northbound

0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!

The sign at the end of the M40 northbound motorway displaying the two options to join the M42 is thoroughly baffling to drivers. It resembles two crossed fingers and contains superfluous information that doesn't aid navigation.

The extra mental effort required to interpret the sign is dangerous as drivers lose focus on the road ahead and creates last second lane changes to correct wrong route choices. This inevitably leads to additional delays to an already congested junction.

A simple redesign of the road sign to eliminate the crossed fingers at the top would simplify the sign dramatically and avoid confusion.
