STOP A66 Road Closure Weekends Sept/Oct 2018
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
Highways England wish to close the A66 east of Penrith in both directs on weekends being from 10pm on a friday until 6am on Monday morning in September and October 2018 (there are no set dates as yet).
Drivers will be divered on routes that will take over 1 hour longer to get to Penrith from the east or Scotch corner from Penrith.
Highways England state the reason for the closure is for road resurfacing to reduce noise and to make a smoother surface. Please bare in mind that HIghways England state that this is not linked to the duel carrageway implementation due to start in 2020. However we should as this is a waste of tax payers money baring in mind the duel carrage way is due to start in 2 years time.
The closure on weekends will have dramatic impact on people commuting along the A66 to Penrith and therefore will have an impact on staff getting to work and visitors visiting Penrith and the Lakes which will in turn have a dramatic effect on the local economy.
The solution is to have night time closures only between 10pm and 6am or to have traffic lights set up for a lane by lane resurfacing.
