Donna kirk started this petition to HIGHLAND COUNCIL

I have started this petition on behalf of the residents in Castletown.  The aim is to make the Main Street safer and we are asking the Highland Council to install a zebra crossing on Main Street.

I have lived in the village for 22 years and over this time I have seen our village get busier, most notably since NC500 came into being.  We have more visitors / tourists  visiting our village which is very welcome but now as a Mum of 2 young children my concerns are heightened about how busy the road is and how difficult it can be to cross at times.  I want my children and those from and visiting here to be able to cross the road safely, most especially at the play park which is near our shops, hotel and bus stops.  The crossing will be useful to all ages including older people or anyone with mobility issues.

I have spoken and have been assured the support of our local Councillors, Matthew Reiss, Karl Rosie and Willie Mackay.  Also Castletown Primary School, Crossroads Primary School, Castletown and District Community Council and Castletown Youth Club.  Local businesses are also supporting the crossing and this includes, Alexander & Robertson LTD, A&L Motors, Castletown Butchers, DM Motors, Castletown Chip Shop, Woodside Garden Centre, Castletown Hotel.

I thank you for your support and I will update you on progress soon.  Let's ensure our wee gem of a village is safer for all who use our amenities.

Thank you

Donna
