In all schools across the Northshore School District, the Covid variant Omicron has spread drastically. Continuing to go to school for the next month will be a dangerous situation for everyone. Based on Covid experts, children hospitalizations and other hospitalizations in general have been higher than ever before. And now, because of the high rising cases, people with other diseases or problems cannot get their help, because of the overcrowding in hospitals.

 Now in school, due to the people who don’t cooperate (like not wearing their masks properly and crowding in tight bunches without their masks properly worn) it’s clear that we may have known that after Winter Break there would be a surge, but we are not ready. Omicron, at this very state, is the dominant variant which is currently more contagious than any other covid variant. With that being said, it is highly likely that anyone is likely to get it.     

It does not matter the age at the moment, right now, children to people in the 70’s or higher are infected. The only way to avoid this is to stop putting people in situations where the people can catch it unnecessarily. At Inglemoor Highschool, the positivity rate in the latest batch test has reached over 20%. 10 times more than before winter break. Omicron may not be as severe as the variants, but it does not make it mild and it is still deadly. Doctors recently have found out that Covid can have permanent symptoms on your body. In this state, school cannot continue in the current crisis. These case numbers far exceed that of the previous delta surge at the beginning of school, the surge in early 2021, or any point in the timeline of this pandemic. It is insane to expect students to risk their health to come to school while a virus which has a positivity rate greater than anything we’ve seen in recent history.
