Businesses  in the Harris County have continuously been in violation of The Houston Sound Ordinance for years. With establishments that are open until 4 a.m. Monday through Friday , residents in the area are left with the responsibility of contacting law enforcement to report the sound disturbance. The problem with this system is that there is not enough law enforcement officers to handle such calls , not to mention the procedure which involves giving the business a warning and leading to sometimes not even been reprehended for violating the sound ordinance. Since Houston has no zoning codes in place new opening businesses like hookah bars and night clubs take advantage by believing  that a permit allows them to play music exceeding 68 dB (A) until 4 a.m. on weekdays and weekends to attract clientele. But not only do these businesses promote alcohol consumption, which leads to many DUI ‘s cases in Houston as well as accidents, they also promote crime and reckless driving in our city . Businesses continue to break the law with out regards of the families, children and senior citizens living in the area. Something needs to be done. “No one is above the law”. As a resident that lives near a commercial area I can only say that it has been a complete nightmare to deal with new businesses. The stress that this brings on residents is indescribable  and to know that The City is not doing enough to end this practice is inconceivable and very hard to understand. I would like for them to put themselves in the shoes of these residents for one day and deeply think how would they function if they could not sleep at night due to music that can be heard three streets down from these businesses. Now imagine if you have children, or if your a senior citizen in your 97 years of age and have to hear the loud noise coming from your window.  No one should experience that, not to mention this practice is disrupting the peace in our own homes, which is a violation of the sound of ordinance. I welcome the Houston City Council Members to reside in one of these areas , such as in the Fondren and Clarkcrest area , and experience themselves how these  new businesses of hookah bars have disrupted the peace in this community.  We need for these businesses to take the Sound of Ordinance seriously and not think of it as a joke. The residents  of this diverse city would like to see changes in a system that is obviously not working and is only promoting violence, crime, alcohol consumption, accidents and deaths in Harris County.

If we want to see a change in our city, in our county , we have to participate. Please sign this petition and pass it on. Because as a community we are stronger.
