Why this petition matters

Started by Jordan Mitchell

My story began when I became a teen parent at the age of 15. Becoming a parent was a life changer and it made it difficult to do the things I’ve always wanted to do. During this time I not only had to deal with the pandemic but also try to make sure my son was safe. I began to lose hope and started to fail school due to depression. This then led to me not passing my junior year, and losing out on school sports. In the past 9 months I have managed to pull my life back together and become better than I ever have been. Due to the PIAA 4 year eligibility rule and age limit I am unable to play school sports my senior year and I think that needs to be changed. Any student from 9th through 12th grade who has been held back due to depression or loss of sports due to Covid deserve a second chance at playing high school sports regardless the age. High school sports have the ability to keep kids mentally stable, and gives kids higher self esteem, especially when playing with friends and playing the sport that they love most.
