Kwan Yau Cheng started this petition to High Commissioner for Human Rights (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR))

The People’s Republic government's recent decision ruled that the candidates for the Chief Executive in Hong Kong must secure 50% support from a 1200-member committee heavily loyal to Beijing before one man one vote. This undemocratic proposal has made Occupy Central, a large-scale civil disobedience movement inevitable.

So far, the Hong Kong SAR government responded to this peaceful movement with severe violence, with pepper spray, tear gas, plastic bullets and riot police unrestrainedly deployed to clear the unarmed, restrained protesters. Many of them are injured by the police and some detained without a legitimate reason. The police has even threatened to open fire on the peaceful protest if the crowd do not disperse. On 2 October 2014, the police was seen beefing up their weaponry by loading additional firearms for teargas and rubber bullets into the government headquarter.

We believe that this should be regarded as a serious violation of basic human rights including freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, freedom from torture, their civil and political rights. The United Nation has the responsibility to protect these unalienable rights of Hong Kong people and prevent the tragic Tiananmen Massacre from repeating in Hong Kong.
