2022 Ratespayers Petition for Hessequa transcend overnight accommodation providers, Guestshouses, hotels, lodges and small business owners hereby call for

1.)  an immediate end to Hessequa's discriminatory categories and block tariffs policy, we need 1 fair & affordable category. That includes also the immediate reductions of electricity block tariffs and a fair and affordable "monthly fixed charge".

2.) an immediate end to punishing Ratespayers with exorbitant above inflation increases year after year, we demand to keep any tariffs increases under 5% currently and within inflation rate plus +/-1%. We object to the 2021/2022 financial year above inflation increases as follows :

"electricity basic levy, up 13.4%/ waste removal, up 14.7%/ water and sewage basic levy up 6%"

The local Government municipal system act 32 of 2000 states, that rates must not be discriminatory and must be affordable to Ratespayers. We demand to comply with the municipal  system act 32 of 2000 and also comply with national policy to stimulate social economic growth and support local tourism. The current policy doesn't take socio-economic factors into account, hence it does not support small businesses and accommodation providers initiatives aimed at creating jobs, nor does it contribute to a thriving economy in Hessequa. The policy is deterrent to investment, uplifting communities and bringing economic growth to our region.
