Reverse Hertfordshire Students' Union's undemocratic decision on the Reindeer Referendum

From the 16th to the 20th of November 2017, Hertfordshire Students's Union held a referendum on whether or not Reindeer should be present at the Christmas Market to be held on the 7th December.
The union stated that this vote was being held as they "have been made aware that there has been a petition against the presence of live reindeer at this year’s Christmas Market." and stated that "the outcome of the vote will decide whether there will be reindeer at the Christmas Market on 7th December 2017." Although the results of the referendum were never published, a final statement was released on the 22nd November 2017 and explained that, although majority of students voted in favour of having reindeer at the event, they would be dismissing their votes and refusing to continue with the booking. The purpose of a Students' Union is to have a democratic structure in which students' views can be represented by our elected officers who we voted for. Refusing to acknowledge the results of the referendum goes against the core values of the Union and we must ensure that we are represented both fairly and equally.
I therefore urge you to sign this petition for the Students' Union to overturn their decision and recognise the results of the referendum.
