Jay-leigh Wilson started this petition to Hertfordshire County Council

I am a wheelchair user and am visually impaired. On countless occasions taxi drivers have been breaching the equality act by charging extra to transport my wheelchair. This needs to stop as it has happened not only to wheelchair users but other disabled individuals and it is illegal and ableist.

I propose that every taxi company is reminded of this equality act and every taxi driver that breaches it should be penalised. Repeated discrimination should result in loss of employment for that person.

Think before you act

Would you charge extra to transport a pushchair or some groceries? I doubt it. So what makes disabled people any different?
I am speaking out for all disabled people who have been charged extra because of their disability, or worse, refused service completely.

Discrimination and ableism is never justifiable so please help me put an end to it.
