Antony Wallace started this petition to Hertfordshire County Council

Hertfordshire County Council is progressing with a consultation to close Hexton JMI School, a beautiful village school that's been in existence since 1845. This will have devastating consequences on pupils, parents and the wider community, particularly after the huge disruption already caused by the global pandemic.

Their reasoning is that low pupil numbers make the school financially unsustainable . However, the board of governors has presented alternative - and very compelling - arguments to give our school every chance of survival.

The timing of this consultation, during a pandemic where our children's lives have been disrupted like never before, is totally inappropriate. We want to stop the consultation from going ahead and to be given the chance to bring the numbers up so we can continue to thrive as we have done for the last 175 years. We must not let the council negatively impact the future of education forever and impact the lives and well being of our children.

Please sign our petition and join the fight to keep our village school open for generations to come. We may well be the first school faced with this proposal from Hertfordshire County Council but we certainly won't be the last.
