Give us a Bishop’s Stortford Goods Yard that improves the town

Bishop’s Stortford has a once in a lifetime opportunity to greatly improve the town centre. The Station Goods Yard site is being developed from gravel car parks to roads, flats, shops and multi-storey car parks. The town has the chance to transform traffic congestion and parking problems with a new road through the goods yard releasing traffic from the Hockerill lights and other roads. It could also provide many more parking spaces to take cars off the surrounding streets. Much needed affordable housing for the young could be provided. Unfortunately the local councillors have let the developers specify the plans to their benefit, without taking the future of the town into account.
Bishop’s Stortford wants, and needs, the development to include the through road to ease traffic elsewhere and a large increase in the number of parking spaces. If the councillors get away with giving the developers what they want the town will have to live with the consequences of an accelerating increase in traffic congestion, worsening air quality, more competition for parking spaces and the retail centre decline continuing.
Give your support to this petition to help us embarrass the Tories, through publicity, and refuse planning permission until they change their plans for Stortford’s benefit.
