Hershey's: Stop Using Child Labor
So, you know what is happening with the world, but we are going to focus on one company. Hershey's. We know what you are thinking "But I love chocolate!".We love it too, but they are using child labor to harvest their cacao beans. That means 5 to 17-year-olds using machetes, climbing trees, and above all, danger. We want to stop them from hurting innocent children. We need you support. If you don't believe in child labor, you'll join us!

John P. Bilbrey
Dear John P. Bilbrey,
How is your company doing? Well, we’re doing fine. Just to say, we love your chocolate! Hershey’s is a good company. You make chocolate for children all over the world. So, you’re sitting there saying “Get to the point!” Well, we will. Even though we love your chocolate, we’re disappointed in you! We know what you may be thinking, “So, a couple of people are disappointed in us, big deal.”. Well to us, child labor is a big deal.
It has come to our attention that you are making children harvest your cacao beans. Children shouldn’t use machetes. This is very dangerous! Even we wouldn’t use them! There is a saying, “All good is hard, all evil is easy. Dying, losing, cheating, and mediocrity is easy. Stay away from easy,” by: Scott Alexander. Hershey’s, you might not realise it, but you are going the easy way. According to Free2Work.com, the children you employ are not given fair workers rights. Others have sent you petitions, but you only changed a small amount. You don’t share how you harvest your cacao beans with the public and how they aren’t paid fairly. Almost nobody knows that you use children to harvest your cacao beans. Children are precious. You are making children suffer! You make chocolate for kids all over the world, you put chocolate in children’s Easter baskets! When word gets out to everyone, the people of the world won’t buy your products.
According to the International Labor Rights Forum
It states that independent research conducted by Tulane University under contract from the U.S. Department of Labor, estimates about 1.8 million children are believed to work on those West African cocoa farms. Approximately 40% of the children―who range in age from five to 17―don't attend school of any kind. Some are reportedly subjected to beatings and prolonged exposure to pesticides and extreme heat.
Do you not care about the children suffering? 2020 is too late! It should not take 7 years for you to change! Children are more valuable than chocolate. Hershey’s is a large company with many smart people. Please endeavor to find solutions to this problem. One solution is to have adults harvest the beans with machines instead of children. Please come up with a plan in the next 3 months after this petition ends. If you are unable to do so, we will start a social media campaign educating the public on exactly how Hershey’s cacao beans are harvested. In addition to the campaign, there will be a boycott.
