Hernando Beach and All of the Gulf of Mexico started this petition to Hernando County Planning and Zoning and Board of County Commissioners

Please sign our petition to help us protect our tranquil coastal community from industrial activities and additional commercial marine harvesting. This is a REPEAT of past attempts since 1984 to transform this property to CM-2 which repeatedly have been denied.

We are strongly opposed to Hernando County Zoning Amendment Petition # H1833 sought to allow commercial fisheries to land, ice, box and ship fin fish, shellfish and crustaceans. This is another attempt to make Hernando Beach a full scale crab, shrimp and fish processing hub which it was not intended to be.

Cheeks Creek offers access to one of the main vessel fueling stations in Hernando Beach as well as a marina. Right across the channel from this property is a large Shoal area. If commercial vessels larger than 26’ are allowed to dock on this lot, it will prevent most recreational vessels from making this turn and make refueling nearly impossible.

This rezoning will add increased commercial vessel traffic resulting in navigational hazards. Additionally, shipping and transporting activities utilizing loaded forklifts will create land based traffic hazards on an already dangerous and congested intersection, Calienta Street.

Hernando Beach is a tranquil and unique residential community where 95% of the taxable value is in residential lots and homes. This rezoning will forever damage the full potential of Hernando Beach as the residential community it was designed to be.

Currently, virtually all of the commercial activities are concentrated on the northernmost main canal, isolated at the edge of town. Rezoning this parcel will open and set the stage for additional attempts to use the two other residential direct access canals for commercial traffic.

We demand that OUR property rights be respected and our residential community protected from this destructive intrusion. Therefore, we the undersigned Strongly Oppose approval of H1833 !
