Representatives of the fight community attended the South Carolina State Athletic Commission Meeting on Tuesday, 4/30/2019. We were shocked to learn that Will McCullough, Chairman of the SC State Athletic Commission for the past 51/2 years would no longer be seated as the chairman on the commission board or a board member period. To our surprise, we learned that his term had expired and someone else in his congressional district had been appointed. Most of us in the fight community don’t have full knowledge about boards, terms, congressional appointments etc. What we do know is, how critical it is to have a person serving us that truly cares and understands the Combat sports world.

We are the fight community whom he serves, and we are his primary constituents, who have benefited from all his many years of knowledge about combat sports and the ever-changing combat sports laws, regulations, and statutes that govern our profession.

Not having him on the commission board at such a critical time is untimely, unjust, and will consequently undermine the welfare of the entire combat sports community as well as many other constituents who Mr. McCullough supports and is highly regarded by.

We appeal to you and your office to address the following request, on behalf of the SC Combat Sports Community and the community members who serve us.

1.      We humbly request the immediate reinstatement of Mr. Will McCullough to the South Carolina State Athletic Commission Board. The fact that he is not an active member of our board at such a critical juncture for combat sports in our state shows a total disregard for the needs of combat sports professionals and a lack of knowledge about the importance of having someone on our board with such a vast knowledge of the combat sports world. Mr. McCullough doesn’t just, “sit on the board”, he is active in the combat sports world community. He can be seen at a vast majority of events being held throughout the region, he is accessible to the combat sports community and he is proactive in combating unforeseen problems that might disrupt the combat sports community. There is no doubt the Combat Sports Community in South Carolina will suffer a catastrophic blow if Mr. McCullough is not reinstated at the earliest possible opportunity.
