Many items in restaurants and fast food chains don't provide any nutritional information about their products . This is effecting our communities health and wellness .
According to HealthAffairs.org they say that the percentage of total food calories consumed in restaurants has almost doubled, from about 18 percent in the 1970s to about 33 percent today and some people don't even know it.
Not only that many items being consumed are made from materials that can cause cancer, heart disease and many other health issues .
If the food labeling law is enforced it can impact consumers’ health and weight status. They will first read the label, understand the information and how to use it, and then make decisions about the food consumption based on the information being provided . Some studies have shown that people who are aware of diet-disease relationships use food labels to guide their food choices, and that food label use is associated with better dietary intake choices.
Given the high cost of obesity in the health care system, the FDA estimates that despite the cost of adding nutritional information to the menus, the new requirement will produce a lots of amazing benefits from $3.7 billion to $10.4 billion over the next twenty years.
