Option to stay at Holman Middle School

The Hampshire South neighborhood continues to be caught in the crosshairs of every new school or redistricting option. Since the inception of the neighborhood in 2001, we have been rezoned elementary schools three times (for a total of four schools) and survived a fourth redistricting when Kaechele was built. At every redistricting, our neighborhood is consistently sent to the furthest possible school option. Families have rarely been able to enjoy sending all of their children (or even one child) to the same schools, as so much redistricting happens here.
Understanding that communities form around schools, that healthy communities have strong parent and student involvement, and that proximity to school is imperative to parent and student involvement, we petition the Henrico County School Board to ensure a viable, votable option that includes keeping our children at Holman Middle School.
Holman Middle School is less than ONE mile from the entrance to the Hampshire South subdivision. Students have the option to walk or ride bikes home from school, which facilitates participation in after-school activities, mitigates delinquency and idleness, and generally enables dual-income families. Short Pump Middle School is more than TWO miles from the subdivision entrance, making walking or riding a bike less safe or realistic.
Moreover, proximity to neighborhood schools directly impacts property value and home sales.
During this June 2017 redistricting, please re-add a realistic option that keeps our neighborhood(s) zoned to Holman Middle School.
This petition should include neighborhoods in the Hampshire South school districting zone. Please include your neighborhood name in your comments.
