Prior to Henrianne Westberg's election as Latah County Clerk in 2014, the Kibbie Dome was frequently used as a polling location on the University of Idaho campus. Throughout Henrianne's time in office, a campus polling location has only been used once - for the 2016 presidential election.

There have been a variety of arguments defending the choice to take away a campus polling location such as cost, inaccessibility of the Kibbie Dome, or lack of student interest to vote. Many U of I administrators have stepped forward to say that they are willing to find a way to restore a campus polling location, which makes the lack of clarity surrounding the decision even more unnerving. Several alternative locations have been suggested on campus to resolve concerns about the Kibbie Dome.

The consequences of polling location removal were very evident on November 6, 2018. Transportation efforts were made by the U of I Department of Student Involvement and others to address negative impacts of the location choice. As students showed up to the polls in swarms on Election Day, the polling location that students were meant to share with the community was unable to handle the high turnout.

The longest line was consistently for Precinct 8, which is comprised significantly of on-campus students. Students waited in line for hours to vote, many eventually leaving for class or work. Several poll staffers even told students that changing their registration address could change their financial aid, without providing any additional resources or clarity.

Voting accessibility benefits everyone. The restoration of a campus polling location would drastically reduce the amount of time it takes to vote. Students are discouraged from bringing their cars to campus and, without transportation assistance, their only option for a polling location this year entailed a long walk in the cold accompanied by several hours of waiting. We want a campus polling location to be restored indefinitely to ensure people are not discouraged from voting again.
