Why this petition matters

I object against the Henley Brook Local structure Plan LPS17-200 because of the significant impact it will have on the community and the environment surrounding the area. The rural environment doesn’t need to lose its natural appeal and organic aspects for something undesirable and bland. The increase in population is going to have a negative effect on the ecosystem and place a horrible strain on the community. We are going to gain a loss in our biodiversity through the air and water pollution as pressure will be placed on natural resources and increase the wastes. The rural suburb is filled with amazing plant vegetation and animals life that should not be easily discarded for potential development. I found the lack of information not addressed through the community disappointing and the display sign around the area completely lacking. The homeowners and locals living here absolutely enjoy the quiet space, feel safe and want to be surrounded by nature.

No thought or real effort was put into preserving our native plants within the rural area as they home a wide range of birds, reptiles and small mammals. We have many eucalypt trees that provide shelter for our black cockatoos that flock over the area daily. Where are these wildlife creatures suppose to go? Is the environmental damage worth the cost of plant and animal life? Will the council take responsibility for causing uncivil rest during the progress? The amount of plant vegetation is so vital to keeping the air clean as the trees absorb radiant heat from the sun and reduce the ambient temperatures through the evaporative cooling. How are locals going to adjust to change in temperatures? Climate change is a real problem and should be handled appropriately for future generations to continue living in the area.

Not being properly informed of this structure plan has been quite upsetting. My family and others in the community have found this news disgusting. To find the information on a small sign and hidden from drivers in a bush was heartbreaking. Do you not want people's opinions? There should not be a reason to overcrowd the suburb with more people or have another school. Building more roads is not enough to guarantee that this will not occur. As we have witnessed from the Swan Valley Anglican Community School in Aveley. People are going to find no benefit in more schools being built as we already have six primary schools and two colleges in Ellenbrook. Did the community ask for this? Stripping away people’s connection to nature and their rights. For what? A set of cramp, and uncomfortable houses that will cause uncivil rest. The residents living here already love the area because it is away from the city giving them space. The countryside gives the locals a chance to go horseback riding, go on trail walks, and explore the wildlife offering the community their own special and unique place.

The council should be protecting and encouraging the management of the wetlands. As building a house over this land can be considered unsafe and increase chances of the structures to suffer from seepage problems in the long run. The landscape is rich and diverse making the potential of creating natural trails and camping facilities that can be less harmful to contributing to the economic regional area. Ideal location for families, trail enthusiasts, grouped cyclists and international event participants to occur within the community. People could enjoy leisure strolls through the forest/bushland, horseback trails and walks would be encouraged as people already in the area own horses and give cyclists a chance to safely travel throughout the rural suburb.
