Revise Dress Code Concerning Hair Color at Henderson County Public Schools NC.

Recently, our daughter was singled out by the administrators at Hendersonville High School, where she is a 10th grade student, over her hair color.
About a week ago, our daughter colored her hair a dark red; not green, not pink, not yellow, not blue, but dark red.
When our daughter returned to school, she was confronted by the assistant principal, who informed our daughter that her hair color is too distracting, and reminded her about the dress code concerning hair color.
Henderson County Public Schools dress code on hair color is as follows:
Unnatural hair color is prohibited because it creates a distraction from the teaching and learning process.
Clearly, this rule as well as other dress code rules were created in the 1950's and never been revised.
In today's age, teens express their feelings and emotions, what they believe in with clothing, makeup and yes, hair color.
Student's have rights of free speech and free self expression as part of the First Amendment of the Constitution.
The U.S. Supreme Court states that student's rights don't leave them when they enter the school house doors. The courts also states, that a student's self expression or free speech are upheld if it's not displaying disruption of learning, posing danger to students or faculty members or creating disorderly conduct.
Hendersonville High School has failed to supply solid proof that our daughters hair color is creating a distraction that's preventing other students from learning or, that our daughters hair color is creating disorderly conduct. The administrators can only say it's part of their code of conduct and that it creates distractions, yet they can't provide proof of any type of distraction our daughters hair color has caused.
Clearly, our daughter and other students rights have been violated; hair color is not going to create disorderly conduct or a riot, it's common sense.
Our family has created this petition so our voices as well as other families who have students that attended Hendersonville High School can be heard and that students rights are not stripped from them.
