Monroe County Commissioners change the law for trapping cats in our community.

Monroe Cats TNR is a Trap- neuter- return 501c3 nonprofit. Our mission is to improve the lives of the homeless cats in Monroe County. Our goal is to stop the reproduction of free roaming cats in our community and educate the people how to take care of, and peacefully live with cats in our neighborhoods. We also pick up sick and injured cats. We have sterilized and vaccinated almost 400 cats since January 2016.

Our City does not embrace TNR (trap neuter release) and or Animal Control cannot take in nor provide help with free roaming cats in our County.
I have spoke with the city of Monroe and animal control concerning incident after incident where people are trapping and killing cats plus trapping then dumping them in the country. Pest control companies are trapping them as well, in which the DNR does not issue permits for.

I have done a lot of research on Mi Law, Monroe County Animal Control Ordinance and the DNR's position on trapping cats. There are laws that protect cats from cruelty and abandonment, however AC says it's almost impossible to uphold the law concerning cats. Our Animal Control cannot help the community with free roaming cats. They do not have time or resources. This needs to change. Monroe CountyAnimal Control needs more Animal Control Officers. We have 2 AC Officers for the entire County.

The cats of this community need your support.

The majority of the people I help with TNR are elderly and cannot fight the fight .
I am asking you to please reach out to all your cat contacts for support so we can make the change to protect community cats and embrace TNR here in Monroe County and protect free roaming cats from abuse and abandonment.

Please ask our County Commissioners to amend the Monroe County Animal Control Ordinance to include TNR and the protection of community cats, as stated in Mi. Law. and  Mi DNR Law. The current ordinance has not been updated since 2003.

Please ask them for more AC Officers.

They need to know what is important to thier voters.

Dear Monroe County Board of Commissioners,

I am a resident of Monroe County. As your constituent, I urge you to support Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). TNR is a community cat management practice where community cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated against rabies, and eartipped (to identify a cat has been neutered and vaccinated). It is the only effective way to reduce the community cat population.

Many Michigan communities already support TNR. I care about animal issues as a voter. Thank you for your consideration,

Sincerely,
