HELP US SAVE THE COMMUNITY GARDEN AT ZERALDA STREET & PULASKI AVENUE IN GERMANTOWN
Why this petition matters
Pulaski Zeralda Community Garden has been a beautiful, thriving community garden in Southwest Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia for 35 years. But now...A DEVELOPER SEEKS A VARIANCE TO BUILD A BIG BOX, 8-unit, APARTMENT BUILDING THAT WILL CUT OFF THE SUNLIGHT TO OUR GARDEN. Help us fight the zoning variance that threatens our garden’s survival! The Zoning Board hearing is on September 27, 2023...we need petition signatures before that date.
The Garden receives sunlight from the south to grow vegetables for their households and for donation to Canaan Baptist Church. With the help of Neighborhood Gardens Trust ("NGT" who holds title to our Garden's land), the Garden has always intended to expand onto the two neighboring lots – to grow more food and to offer more space for community events and programming.
If the variance is granted, we won’t be able to grow our crops that feed our families and the community. The developer refused NGT’s offer to purchase the lot for fair market value and refused even to meet with us to discuss our offer or the impact of the development on the Garden. Since the developer purchased the lot, it has become overgrown with weeds and dumping. The developer's lot has decades of unpaid taxes and water lien.
YOU CAN HELP STOP THIS OVERBUILDING PLAN! Sign this petition today to ask Councilwoman Bass and the Zoning Board of Adjustment to oppose the zoning variance for 4535 Pulaski Ave!!
