Mrs Rushent started this petition to Alok Sharma (MP) and

Year 4 at Long Lane Primary School (West Berkshire), http://longlane.w-berks.sch.uk/, have been celebrating 'Our Beautiful World' and learning about our environment.  We have carried out lots of research and feel passionately about the problems caused to children from air pollution.  As part of our celebration we are holding a cake sale and information session for parents at school.

It is thought that up to 36,000 deaths are caused in the UK by the effects of air pollution. Air pollution causes illnesses such as heart disease and worsens illnesses such as asthma. It is damaging to the health of all of us but particularly young children and those with heart and lung problems (Global Action Plan)

We found out that UNICEF is asking the UK Government to set targets to reduce air pollution, have an action plan to protect children from toxic air, set up a fund to help local government protect little lungs.  Global Action Plan organise a Clean Air Day every Year.

There are simple things you can do to help: walk, cycle or scoot whenever you can, rather than driving. When you can, avoid walking along the busiest roads.  Service your boiler regularly, only use well seasoned wood, open a window when cooking, close windows during rush hour and lots more at Clean Air Day: https://www.cleanairday.org.uk/

We want to add our voice to the campaigns so please sign our petition and see UNICEF's campaign on their website: https://www.unicef.org.uk/clean-air-child-health-air-pollution/

Thank You!
