Help us keep our Social Justice Professor @VCU
In the middle of the 2022 spring semester my classmates and I found out that our“Religion, Race, and Social Justice” professor, Dr.David Weinfeld would potentially be transferring universities this upcoming fall. We were all very sadden, and perplexed by our college's decision not to extend Dr. David Weinfeld contract. Dr Weinfeld's impact on his students is unexplainable and it’s something that cannot be replaced . He has created a safe space in the classroom, that allows us to freely express ourselves, and even challenge his teachings without fear of being ridiculed or reprimanded. He’s also offered his services outside the classroom as well, whether that be through walking us through assignments, or writing letters of recommendation letters. He’s also taught us that our voices do matter, no matter what. Dr. Weinfeld has also given us perspectives that expanded our ways of thinking, while still validating our own experiences and personal struggles.
As students of World Studies major, we already feel underrepresented and disregarded by the Virginia Commonwealth University, but it's hard to continue with this major, when the passionate and influential professors aren't being given the opportunity to stay and facilitate our growth in learning. We’re asking our fellow World Studies classmates, as well as faculty, and students in other colleges at the university to stand with us, by signing this petition to help our voices be heard.. Our hope is that the college of Humanities and Sciences here at VCU can reconsider its decision, and extend the David Weinfeld teaching contract so future students get the opportunity to enjoy the social justice concentration, as much as my classmates and I do.
