As of 2022, Uber (Uber Technologies, Inc.) has an estimated net worth of $15 billion, yet Uber drivers are job poor.  Drivers are self-employed and depend on Uber customers to pay their income.  For example, as an Uber Eats driver in Tampa Bay, I only make 60% of what the customer pays in Uber service fees.  As an Uber driver we have to spend money (LOTS of money), only to make a pittance.  How are we supposed to sustain, not only paying for gas and other car maintenance fees, but to pay our bills???  We are providing a great and convenient service to the community, and we love doing it, but we as drivers are not being thought about.  We are job poor, but yet, we are the reason why Uber is a $15 billion company.

Gas is at an all-time high and Uber thought the right move was to discontinue the tiny surcharge (as of 6/16).  On top of gas prices being at record highs, we are seeing smaller and smaller dollar amount requests coming through every day.  Uber needs to step up to the plate and play their role as a $15 billion company to support their drivers who are using personal property and spending personal money to make them money.  We should not be work poor, independent contractors when working for a $15 billion company.  Drivers are happy to negotiate with Uber as to what fair supplemental compensation would be.  Things such as regular base pay top ups, regular driver promotions (Uber Eats rarely has driver promotions), quarterly "bonus" payouts, additional gas surcharge paid by Uber, etc... could all be things that are negotiated.

To show how little drivers make, here is an example using my pay so far this week:

18 trips (deliveries) = $67.80 (base pay, tips not included)

18 trips x .45 gas surcharge = $8.10 (no longer happening as of 6/16)

Tips (those who decided to tip) = $81.22

Total made this week so far: $154.87

$154.87 doesn't account for the $50 I spent in gas to make those deliveries happen, my bills I have to pay and the groceries I need to buy, car maintenance, or any taxes that will be deducted come the end of the year.

I am a PT driver and average $225 a week/$900 a month, spending $100 on gas every 8 days.  I am a FT student, so working more hours is not ideal, plus with gas prices, it would cause even more of a burden to me.  Regardless of if an Uber driver is FT or PT, we are all experiencing the same struggles.

Uber and the public need to understand the compromise drivers are putting themselves in to provide the public with great service.  The public needs to be aware that the drivers serving them are barely making ends meet and drivers are pleading for the public's help to push Uber to step up and put part of their $15 billon towards their drivers all over the world.  That's the least they could do!!

Please sign and share this petition!  Help keep Uber drivers on the road and help us live a sustainable life!!  We enjoy serving our community but will no longer be able to do so if Uber doesn't step up and help us out!

Thank you for your support!!
