Help the staff of the MUSC wellness center keep their "complimentary" memberships.

As state employees, the staff at the MUSC wellness center recently learned they can not accept any type of "gift" over the value of $1.99.  For example, they could graciously accept a pen, but nothing of value (such as a vacation).

After being audited in the early parts of last decade, it became apparent to the higher-ups that employees were receiving a "complimentary" membership, which would be the equivalent to a vacation.

Therefore, as of April 1, 2012 all employees who choose to utilize the MUSC wellness center, must pay a full membership. As we all know, (especially in this profession), exercise = health. There are many research studies in circulation exhibiting the positive effects of exercise. Some examples include preventing depression to boosting the immune system, and fighting off disease.

Moreover, this decision is going to ultimately effect the overall morale at the Student Harper Wellness Center (which is already low). The staff clearly cares about their health and hopes this decision can be overridden.

Staff and members were shocked at this last minute implementation to deprive workers the one last perk for working at the gym.  This decision effects full-time, part-time, and temporary staff employed directly under the MUSC student Harper wellness center.

Please keep in mind some employees are not granted any health benefits or "complimentary" parking of any kind.

Discontinue the latest decision on memberships
