Preserve Hahira's Rural Living started this petition to Scott Orenstein and

 1) Stop the rezoning of Hahira's Rural area into cookie cutter homes on tiny lots.  2) Stop the Val Del and Bethany Dr. Subdivision.  3) Amend the proposed character area and future land use map to restrict less than  2 1/2 acre lots in the Bethany Rd,, Bethany Dr., Fiveash Rd., Thompson Rd., Hall Rd., and McMillian Rd. areas.

RURAL HAHIRA RESIDENTS!! IMPORTANT!! PLEASE READ TO THE END!!
This Tuesday at 5:30 the board of commissioners will be voting to approve or deny the subdivision at Val Del Rd. and Bethany Dr. The developers are requesting to go against the 2016 Greater Lowndes Comprehensive Plan we as a community paid millions of dollars to come up with just a few years ago. They want to put 1/2 acre lots on a 64 acre tract that is currently zoned for 2 1/2 acre lots and surrounded by larger rural lots. If this request gets approved we will see the county water and sewer come up to service them. The County’s plan is to run the water and sewer to McMillian and go east. When that happens the subdivisions we see on Val Del like Nelson Hills, and others, will continue to March up Val Del and turn on McMillian Rd. then spread into our rural area.
NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THIS! In case you missed the tiny printed public notice in the back of the paper’s Public notice section! The new character area and future land use map is in the final stages and if it’s approved August 10th as is everything south of Thompson Rd., Bethany Dr, Bethany Rd, and McMillian will be changed to allow for 1/2 acre lot development. This will ruin our rural way of living we have enjoyed for generations and bring in more crime, traffic, school overcrowding etc. when developers buy up tracts of land to develop.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to show up at the County commissioners meeting this Tuesday at 5:30 and let them know We Don’t Want Our Rural Community Destroyed! This Subdivision is the stepping stone for that and will set a precedent for future development north, east, and west of it! We had a 90 acre tract go up for sale on Bethany Dr. just today.
For more information on how you, as a rural Hahira area resident, can help stop the proliferation of houses and the destruction of our rural Hahira community please request to join our private Facebook group “Preserve Hahira’s Rural Living”.
To view the new proposed “character area and future land use map” stop by Southern Georgia Regional Commissioner’s office 1937 Carlton Adams Dr. in Valdosta. Elizabeth Backe is the contact person and in charge of the rezoning planning. Her contact info is ebacke@sgrc.us. 229-333-5277. Let them know we don’t want our rural area in Hahira turned into R21, 1/2 acre lots. DON’T FORGET TO SHOW UP AT THE MEETING ON 7-13!!
