Over the years, Los Angeles has become a major dumping ground for trash. The population within Los Angeles and within the general human population continues to increase creating a consistent demand for products, especially plastics. This has created a generation of waste that is accompanied by environmental pollution. Majority of these products contain toxic chemicals which can spread into the environment causing detrimental effects to the ecosystem. According to the Los Angeles Magazine, “the city hauls 800 tons of recyclables away each day and about a third of it is either incinerated or bulldozed into landfills.” The incineration and bulldozing of these plastics further allows their toxicity to be released into the Earth's atmosphere.
