Children’s clothing stores are now full of t-shirts and jumpers covered in ‘interactive’ sequinned images. Just a single search of one retailer’s website for sequinned kidswear returned a massive 310 options.

Each single item can contain hundreds of PVC sequins and once the clothing is disposed of these plastics end up in our soil, rivers and oceans, taking up to 1000 years to biodegrade.

There is an overwhelming wastage of material during the making process - on average 33% of sequin film is wasted during the conventional punching method. This too – this non-biodegradable plastic – has undesirable longevity and toxicity which affects our environment and wildlife centuries beyond the end of life of sequins.

In line with the global desire to reduce damaging plastic use, we ask that major U.K. retailers dramatically reduce the number of sequins they use or seek to use sustainable alternatives such as recycled or bio- plastics.
