Brinkmann Family started this petition to Southold Town Board (a govt body gone too far)

Stop Southold Town government from seizing our family's property as a means to keep us from building our hardware store.

Two years ago we bought a commercially zoned property on the corner of New Suffolk Ave. and Main Rd in Mattituck's business district.  We made application to the local township to build our store.  Our application is within complete compliance of the Town zoning and code.  Despite this compliance, the Town has refused to process our application and has now proposed seizing our land to prevent us from building.

On August 11th, 2020 the Southold Town board will vote to take our property via Eminent Domain.  This is an obvious abuse of the power they hold. Eminent Domain was never intended to be used as a reactionary tool to stop development.

If just four of the six board members vote in favor of Eminent Domain they can take our land.  If done, this sets an extremely dangerous precedent that should be of grave concern to any property owner.  If Eminent Domain is allowed to be an ever present threat from a Town Board, it will decrease all property values in that Town.

If this Town Board can get away with doing this to our family, who will be next?  Whether it’s your home, business or open land, with just four votes they are demonstrating their willingness to take property as THEY see fit.  This unjustified taking of land is WRONG AND UN-AMERICAN.  This should never be allowed to happen to any family.

Together we can stop this!  With just three "NO" votes from the Town Board members our family will keep our land and stop this abuse of power.

Please sign this petition to STAND UP FOR PROPERTY RIGHTS and send the Southold Town Board a message to vote “NO” on Eminent Domain.
