In cities across America, we’ve seen that activating our Main Streets can re-energize our neighborhoods, bringing foot traffic, local jobs, vibrancy and even a reduction in crime. We support the passage of an “Open for Business” incentive package in San José to fill ground floor vacant parcels in our Neighborhood Business Districts, Strong Neighborhood Initiative areas and Downtown.
Our idea is simple - where landlords of long-vacant, street-facing storefronts are willing to reduce their asking lease rates, City Hall should waive permit fees for new businesses seeking to get up and running, and expedite the process.
As concerned citizens we are urging our leaders to act now to bring new jobs and businesses to our Main Streets. We believe that improving our local economy is a team effort, and when we get our storefronts bustling and support local businesses we all win.
