Help save the historic old Erdington market from closure!
The old Erdington Market as it's known on St Barnabas rd is a historic site in north Birmingham, standing in its current form from the 1950's and predecessor markets going back to the 19th century.
Like so many high streets in working-class areas due to many years of lack of investment and resources there has been a negative knock on effect to treasured community spaces like the old Erdington Market.
Residents of Erdington do not want to see another empty store front laying vacant in the heart of our community, that's why we call upon Birmingham City Council to step in to buy the market via municipal acquisition to save the site and provide the vital investment in repairs and refurbishment it deserves.
We are reaching out to all political parties and groups for a bi-partisan appeal of support. On the back of a recent by-election in Erdington lots of promises and statements were made of 'Regeneration & Levelling-Up'' so we would to see those words put into action.
We have a very short space of time to work with, the proposed closure date stands at the 30th April so every bit of support every day and every hour is vital.
Erdington should have a home for independent traders and saving community spaces, even if a rescue plan/support package could be arranged for the traders on the preliminary scale whilst the council/council partners takes over the building in order to have democratic community input over the repurposing of this space in order to reflect what ordinary local people need and what to see on their high st will be a progressive step forward.
