Why this petition matters

Bottom Line: For 35 years, hundreds of thousands of motorcycles descended upon our Nation's Capitol and staged at the Pentagon before demanding accountability for the lives that were still unaccounted for following the Vietnam War. Help us return Rolling to Remember (formerly Rolling Thunder) to its rightful home of 35 years the Pentagon!

The Rolling Thunder Washington, DC First Amendment Demonstration Run started in 1988. Motorcycle riders from around the nation would rally in the Pentagon parking lots and then begin riding a designated route through the Mall area of Washington, D.C. A 1st Amendment Event, this tradition brought awareness and accountability for POWs and MIAs left behind, and the original mission is no less important today as over 85k lives are still un-accounted for.

2019 was slated to be the final Run in DC, and AMVETS Leadership stepped up and offered their organizational capacity and partnership to ensure the legacy of the Rolling Thunder tradition for generations to come.

The nation’s most inclusive Congressionally-chartered veterans service organization, AMVETS represents the interests of 20 million veterans. AMVETS is uniquely positioned to work with the Rolling Thunder DC Board of Directors to continue the mission and ensure the integrity of this vital demonstration that will take place again on Sunday, May 28th in Washington DC.

Now known as "Rolling to Remember," AMVETS and Thunder Alley (still organized and championed by Rolling Thunder DC) worked together to host almost 50k participating riders (not including the countless spectators who traveled to DC to cheer on the Rally). While thrilled with this turnout, AMVETS and Rolling Thunder DC stand together to advocate for a return to the Pentagon instead of RFK Stadium for motorcycle staging where we believe we can confidently grow our participation to previous levels over the coming years.

Will you join AMVETS, Rolling to Remember DC, and our ecosystem of shared patriot supporters as we request the necessary permits to return this tradition to its original home at the Pentagon? We are committed to the infrastructure, supports, and safety planning that will allow us to collectively execute this time-tested event in the safest, most inclusive, and productive way possible. Staging at the Pentagon will ensure the same historic route that allowed riders to set up rendezvous points with new and old friends after the run, visit their memorials and that of their family members, and participate in other Memorial Day events in the area.
