Help Refugees Survive a Brutal Winter
This petition had 46,786 supporters
The world currently finds itself facing the worst refugee crisis since World War II.
You could play an important role in helping the more than four million Syrian refugees who have been fleeing violence, persecution, and the terrorist threat of ISIS.
The United Nations and its humanitarian agencies are working around the clock to provide safety, security, shelter, food, vaccines and education to Syrian refugees in need. However, they cannot continue to ease the suffering of civilians without adequate support for the UN and its agencies from Congress.
Helping refugees is a core value of the United States and the United Nations. Let’s make sure the U.S. fully supports the UN’s life-saving efforts.
Here are a just a few examples of the UN’s work in support of Syrian refugees:
- The World Food Program (WFP) is delivering lifesaving food assistance to more than four million people in Syria every month, as well as 1.7 million Syrian refugees in neighboring countries.
- In preparation for this frigid winter, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has insulated shelters and provided thermal blankets, as well as warm clothing, heaters, and fuel to hundreds of thousands of displaced Syrians.
- The UN Children’s Agency (UNICEF), for its part, has been helping to ensure access to safe drinking water for 15.6 million Syrians, providing educational support and recreational activities for displaced children, and vaccinating millions of children throughout the region in the wake of a polio outbreak in Syria.
By speaking up on behalf of the UN’s work, you can ensure the U.S. does its part to protect these moms, dads, and kids in the worst moment of their lives.
