Only when all the forests and trees are destroyed, all the rivers, oceans, the whole air and earth are poisoned and contaminated, all animals and plants are eradicated, you will realize that you can not eat and breathe money and power and now it's the time of the end of humanity and believe me, this planet will not miss you and is a much better place without you. Yesterday we were still faced with the abyss in all these questions and today we are a huge step further. The universe and this earth will continue to exist without you, as infinitely as your human stupidity, arrogance and vandalism.

Mature trees fulfill crucial environmental purposes and should be retained.

As a Thurgoona resident for 17 years I have seen the destruction of so many wildlife corridors and habitats. It needs to stop and replanting needs to happen.

Birds are one of the indicators of a healthy environment and they are suffering massive declines. Threatened species like the Regent Honeyeater do not just need a few trees in a key spot, they, like many birds need space to move when trees cease to flower and others come on track. Every time another forest, another wildlife corridor, another copse is felled, that's another nail in the coffin. It has to be stopped!

I've walked through parts of The Elms that have already been built (on a regular basis walking my dog) and because no existing trees were preserved there is no shade anywhere. It's noticeably hotter walking along the streets in newly developed areas and it's even worse to see the newly planted trees struggling and dying (despite also needing to wait 30-40 years to have them replace what was cut down). There is not enough value placed on mature trees and all the difficulties they've faced over the 30-40 years they've taken to grow.
The house I live in is surrounded by 3 tall trees that provide excellent shade and make a noticeable difference to temperatures in the back yard. I'm turned off from many of the new houses going up as there is just no shade and in hot years the lawns and gardens are just going to die. It's a real pity to see this kind of rushed development.

With the rapid degradation of our lands and loss of habitat for birds and animals we need our trees to be preserved for the good of future generations.

Smart city planning must protect the irreplaceable ecological value and essential beauty of old native trees and provide native wildlife sanctuaries in our communities - we should do everything we can to protect these wise old trees. How ugly will Thurgoona look without them?
